Testimonials

Newel is one of the greatest resources in our industry. The collection is encyclopedic and spans the history of decorative arts, making sourcing effortless. Perhaps Newel’s finesest resource is Jake Baer, who’s knowledge of the collection, sharp eye, and gracious personality makes work a great pleasure. I love working with Jake and Newel!

The Art of New York Interiors: A Celebration of Collected Living
Drawn from several distinguished estates, the principal interior collections bring together hundreds of important works of furniture, fine art, and decorative arts selected for rooms by Stephen Bastone, Thierry Despont, and other influential designers.
Complementing these interiors, the auction also includes jewelry and select property from other estates. These additional consignments broaden the range of the sale while remaining distinct from the collections associated with the named designers.
At the center of the collection is a monumental 1987 oil on canvas by Ana Mercedes Hoyos. The fine art selection also includes an oil by French artist Émile Bernard, a painting by Bernar Venet, and a group of 3 original drawings by Sol LeWitt.
The collection also features a suite of 6 dining chairs from a Thierry Despont interior, conceived to complement the work of legendary French designer Marc du Plantier. Together, these pieces provide a rare view into residences assembled with exceptional taste, access, and resources. More than the contents of important homes, they reflect the vision of the designers and collectors who shaped the language of luxury interiors.
