FAQ

  • Newel Auctions is the auction division of Newel LLC, a family-run institution with over 85 years of expertise in antiques, decorative arts, design, and luxury collectibles. Led by industry veterans and powered by our longstanding relationships with interior designers, collectors, and estates, Newel Auctions presents a trusted platform for selling and acquiring remarkable pieces—from fine art and furnishings to fashion, jewelry, and memorabilia.

  • Newel Auctions brings the authority of one of the most respected names in the decorative arts to the auction world. Our clients benefit from personal service, industry-leading expertise, and a trusted platform with global reach.

  • Registration is easy and secure. All bidders must provide a government-issued photo ID. Additional verification—such as a bank reference—may be required to raise bidding limits, similar to other top-tier auction houses. Once approved, you’ll receive access to bid in person, online, or by absentee.

  • You can bid live online, by telephone (for lots with a $2,000+ estimate), via absentee bid, or in person at select sales.

  • Absolutely. We offer private virtual previews by appointment, Monday–Friday. Our specialists will guide you through condition and details in real-time.

  • The buyer’s premium is a standard industry fee added to the hammer price:

    • 18% for in-person bids

    • 23% for online bids
This helps fund the cataloging, marketing, and secure handling that make Newel Auctions such a trusted platform.

  • Newel Auctions operates with a low seller’s commission, taken only if your item sells. This aligns our goals with yours: we succeed only when you do. Every consignment is handled with the same care and strategic attention we’d give our own collection.

  • We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover (with a 3% processing fee), and wire transfers. For invoices over $5,000, payment must be made by wire unless you're an established client. Personal checks and PayPal are not accepted. All payments must clear before items are released.

  • You’ll receive an invoice and payment instructions. In-person buyers must pay within 1 hour; online buyers within 5 days. Once your payment clears, you can pick up your items or coordinate third-party shipping. Don’t forget to insure your shipment!

  • Items must be collected within 10 days of the auction. After that, a storage fee of $25 per lot per day applies. After 30 days, unclaimed items may be resold to cover storage.

  • Shipping is the buyer’s responsibility. We recommend experienced third-party shippers and strongly advise insuring all shipments.
